Reciprocating compressor discharge valve assembly on a white background

Reciprocating Compressor Valves

Reciprocating compressor valves are key components that control gas flow into and out of the compressor cylinder. They open and close in response to pressure differences, and their configuration and suitability must be evaluated against the compressor design, gas service and actual operating conditions.

RONDER focuses on the design and manufacture of reciprocating compressor valves. The current range is organized into ring valves, mesh valves and poppet valves, covering nine model designations.

Ring Valves

FW Type (Fouling-Resistant Valve)

The FW type is a fouling-resistant valve intended for compressors in demanding service.

Patented product. Patent No. ZL98211953.4.

Compressor valves can operate in particularly harsh environments in many important process services:

  • water gas and coalbed methane in coal-chemical service, as well as waste gas in petrochemical service, can contain substantial dust, tar or other contaminants that may cause valve blockage and sticking;
  • polymers entering compressors in polypropylene, polyethylene and similar chemical units may cause valve blockage and sticking;
  • excessive lubricating oil and condensate entering the valve may cause liquid impact.

RONDER developed the FW fouling-resistant valve for efficiency and reliability under these demanding conditions.

Design Features

  • Wide passages and wide sealing surfaces support gas tightness, flow performance and energy efficiency.
  • Large lift provides a large effective flow area and low valve loss.
  • A special valve-plate design reduces the effect of contaminants on plate sealing.
  • Robust springs operate at low stress for long service life.

Applicable Service

  • Coal-chemical service.
  • Waste-gas recovery in petroleum and petrochemical service.

Main Performance Features

  • The valve-body surface receives a special treatment that makes contaminants less likely to form coke or carbon deposits in the flow passages, helping maintain gas flow, extend service life and save energy.
  • The valve plates are made from high-performance PEEK. Their low mass reduces impact and wear on the plates and valve body, extending valve service life.
  • All valve-body components are forged and the valve plates are plastic. The valve body will not fracture and fall into the cylinder; if a plate fractures and enters the cylinder, it will not score the cylinder or damage the piston or piston rings.
  • Valve springs use high-performance 17-7PH material.

HD Type (Cushion Valve)

The HD type is a cushion valve intended for compressors handling clean gas service.

Product Features

  • A large number of springs provides low spring stress and long service life.
  • An optimized gas-cushion design in the valve guard supports long plate life and low noise.
  • Small lift supports long service life.

Applicable Service

  • Relatively clean gas streams.
  • Medium- and high-pressure service.

HK Type

The HK type is a ring valve intended for compressors handling light gases.

Product Features

  • Wide passages and wide sealing surfaces support gas tightness, flow performance and energy efficiency.
  • Small lift reduces plate tilting and impact force, extending service life.
  • Robust springs operate at low stress for long service life.

Applicable Service

  • Low molecular weight: Mw < 8.
  • Low- and medium-pressure stages.
  • Lubricated or oil-free service.

Mesh Valves

WD Type

The WD type is a mesh valve intended for low- and medium-pressure service.

Product Features

  • Simple construction.
  • Wide slots reduce the likelihood of valve blockage.
  • Large lift increases the effective flow area and supports energy efficiency.
  • Robust springs operate at low stress for long service life.

Applicable Service

  • High molecular weight: MW > 5.
  • Low- and medium-pressure service.
  • Low- and medium-speed service: < 1000 rpm.
  • Lubricated or oil-free service.

WG Type

The WG type is a mesh valve intended for high-speed, medium- and high-pressure service.

Product Features

  • Springs arranged around the outermost circumference provide strong resistance to oil sticking.
  • Robust springs operate at low stress for long service life.
  • Anti-fouling treatment provides resistance to liquid impact, contaminants and oil sticking, while reducing accumulation and supporting reliability.

Applicable Service

  • No molecular-weight restriction.
  • Medium- and high-pressure service.
  • High-speed service: < 1800 rpm.
  • Lubricated service, including excessive lubrication conditions.

WJ Type

The WJ type is a metallic mesh valve intended for process compressors.

Product Features

  • Multiple flow slots provide a large flow area and low valve loss.
  • Dual cushioning reduces opening and closing impact.
  • Strong cushion springs resist oil sticking.

Applicable Service

  • Medium- and high-pressure service.
  • Low- and medium-speed service: < 1000 rpm.
  • Separate designs are used for lubricated and oil-free service.

WP Type

The WP type is a mesh valve intended for compact, efficient compressors.

Product Features

  • Multiple flow slots provide a large flow area and low valve loss.
  • The leaf-spring structure has a nonlinear stiffness characteristic, supporting favorable opening and closing behavior under variable operating conditions.
  • The absence of spring pockets permits a thin valve guard, low clearance volume and high efficiency.
  • Multiple spring plates can be combined to maintain low spring stress and long service life.

Applicable Service

  • Low-, medium- and high-pressure service.
  • Low- and medium-speed service: < 1000 rpm.
  • Lubricated or oil-free service.

Poppet Valves

JD Type

The JD type is a poppet valve intended for low- and medium-pressure service.

Product Features

  • Large lift supports favorable flow through the valve gap.
  • The spherical poppet head forms line contact with the valve-seat sealing surface for good sealing performance.
  • A honeycomb arrangement accommodates multiple poppet heads, while large passages reduce the likelihood of blockage.
  • Individual poppet heads simplify operation and maintenance.

Applicable Service

  • Low- and medium-pressure service.
  • Low- and medium-speed service: < 600 rpm.
  • Lubricated or oil-free service.

JG Type

The JG type is a poppet valve intended for medium- and high-pressure service.

Product Features

  • The spherical poppet head forms line contact with the valve-seat sealing surface for good sealing performance.
  • The skirtless poppet-head structure provides high strength for high-pressure service.
  • The honeycomb arrangement accommodates the maximum number of poppet heads within the same area.
  • Individual poppet heads simplify operation and maintenance.

Applicable Service

  • Medium- and high-pressure service.
  • Medium- and high-speed service: < 1500 rpm.
  • Lubricated or oil-free service.
